D-Day Prayer Addition Construction to Begin in July 2022

For Immediate Release June 5

The D-Day Prayer Project has taken another step forward this week, as a general contractor has been secured to begin the construction of the placement of FDR's D-Day Prayer at the WWII Memorial Circle of Remembrance in Washington, D.C. The agreement was signed with Grunley Construction as the general contractor for the construction of the Prayer's addition, according to Holly Rotondi, Executive Director of  Friends of the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Christian Alliance of America President Chris Long made the following statement, "This is a long-awaited next step to the Prayer's addition at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., fulfilling the promise to our WWII veterans that we would see this project through. It has been an eleven-year journey, starting in 2011 when legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congressman Bill Johnson of Ohio's 6th District, and in the U.S. Senate by Senator Rob Portman.  The WWII Memorial Prayer Act - S 1044 passed by unanimous consent in the U.S. Senate on the eve of the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, passed the U.S. House with broad bipartisan support and was signed into law by President Obama on June 30, 2014. Then began site location, design approval, and the fund-raising phase for the project, as the legislation stipulates that tax dollars shall not be used for the placement of the prayer, but with private donations. Small donations came in from across the country from veterans and their families and individuals who understood the significance of adding the D-Day Prayer at the WWII Memorial, as it will stand as a lasting tribute to the men and women who serve us in the U.S. military as they defend our freedoms against the threat of tyranny."

The completion and dedication of the prayer are expected sometime in late November/early December of 2022.
